The Red Sea is famous for its healthy coral reefs and high variety of reef fish.

You may encounter:

  • Oceanic whitetip sharks
  • Grey reef sharks
  • Hammerhead sharks
  • Thresher sharks
  • Manta rays
  • Eagle rays

  • Octopus
  • Nudibranchs
  • Ghost pipefish
  • Large schools of reef fish

The southern Red Sea and offshore sites are particularly well known for shark encounters.

Macro or landscape?

Both, but the Red Sea is especially strong for wide-angle photography.

Landscape / Wide Angle

Excellent for:

  • Colorful coral reefs
  • Dramatic reef walls
  • Drop-offs
  • Shark encounters
  • Large schools of fish
  • Shipwrecks
  • Turtles
  • Dolphins

The Red Sea’s excellent visibility and colorful reefs make it particularly rewarding for wide-angle photography.

Macro

Macro photographers can find:

  • Nudibranchs
  • Ghost pipefish
  • Shrimp
  • Crabs
  • Blennies
