Become a Certified Diver and Explore the Underwater World
The SSI Open Water Diver program is your first step toward becoming a certified scuba diver. Learn essential scuba skills, safety procedures, and how to dive confidently with an SSI Professional. After certification, you can dive with a buddy to a maximum depth of 18 meters.
What you’ll do
The SSI Open Water Diver program combines online learning, pool or confined water training, and open water dives. You will learn how to use scuba equipment and practice essential skills in a safe environment with an SSI Professional. During the course, you will develop important skills such as buoyancy control, mask clearing, regulator recovery, and safe diving procedures. You will then apply these skills during open water training dives. After completing all performance requirements, you will earn your SSI Open Water Diver certification and be qualified to dive independently with an equally or more qualified buddy, within your training limits.
Before you start
- Minimum age: 10 years old
- Able to swim and be comfortable in the water
- No previous scuba diving experience required
- Complete the required SSI digital learning and medical requirements
