Losin
Losin Rock, Thailand is one of Thailand’s most remote and exciting dive destinations in the Gulf of Thailand. Located far offshore from the southern coast, Losin is known for clear water, healthy coral reefs, strong marine biodiversity and encounters with larger pelagic species.
Where it is
Losin Rock is a small, isolated pinnacle located offshore in the Gulf of Thailand. Because of its remote location, diving is usually done as part of a liveaboard or dedicated dive trip.
Marine life to see
Losin is particularly famous for its large marine life and healthy coral reef ecosystem.
You may encounter:
- Whale sharks
- Guitar rays
- Barracuda
- Giant trevally
- Tuna
- Rainbow runners
- Reef sharks
- Eagle rays
- Large schools of tropical fish
- Moray eels
- Nudibranchs and other macro creatures
Whale shark encounters are one of the major attractions, although sightings are never guaranteed.
Macro or landscape?
Landscape and big marine life are the main highlights.
Landscape / Wide Angle
Losin is excellent for wide-angle photography because of:
- Large coral-covered pinnacles
- Clear blue water
- Schools of fish
- Barracuda
- Giant trevally
- Whale sharks and other pelagic species
- Dramatic underwater scenery
Macro
Macro life is also present around the reef, including:
- Nudibranchs
- Shrimp
- Crabs
- Small reef fish
- Blennies and gobies
Recommendation: Wide-angle is the preferred setup for Losin, especially if your main goal is to photograph large marine life and schools of fish.
How many dives you need
Because Losin is remote and conditions can be more challenging than typical recreational dive destinations, having solid diving experience is recommended.
Beginner — 10–30+ logged dives
You should be comfortable with buoyancy, boat diving and basic current management.
Intermediate — 30–50+ dives
A good level of experience for handling changing conditions and enjoying deeper or current-affected dives.
Experienced — 50+ dives
Recommended for divers who want to make the most of Losin, especially underwater photographers and divers looking for pelagic encounters.
Tip: If you have not dived for a long time, complete a refresher or Reactivate dive before joining the trip.
On land
Losin is very different from typical island destinations.
Remote Dive Expedition
There is no developed island destination at Losin itself. The experience is focused almost entirely on diving and being offshore.
