The SSI Recreational Sidemount program teaches you how to safely dive with your cylinders mounted at your sides. Learn how to set up and manage sidemount equipment while improving your buoyancy, trim, and comfort underwater. It is a great choice for recreational divers who want a flexible and streamlined way to dive.
What you’ll do
The SSI Recreational Sidemount program teaches you how to safely use and manage a recreational sidemount configuration. You will learn how to set up, adjust, and correctly position your sidemount equipment before diving. Training includes cylinder management, gas switching, buoyancy control, trim, and efficient movement underwater. You will practice these skills in confined water and open water with an SSI Professional. After completing the required training, you can use a recreational sidemount configuration within the limits of your certification, training, and experience.
Before you start
- Minimum age: 15 years old
- SSI Open Water Diver certification or equivalent
- Comfortable using basic scuba equipment
- Complete the required SSI medical and administrative requirements
